A resident reported a small, listless alligator floating oddly in a popular lake. We found Hope, a juvenile, blinded in one eye and with a severe jaw injury, likely from a boat strike. She was emaciated, unable to hunt or eat, and simply waiting to die. We safely captured her and brought her to our rehabilitation center. Our vets treated her wounds and placed her on a regimen of soft foods and medicine. After months of care, her strength returned. Though her jaw bears a permanent crookedness, she learned to eat and thrive again. We recently released her into a protected wildlife refuge, where she can live a full life, safe from boat traffic.
